Anonymizer Versus GhostSurf Review
This Anonymizer Anonymous Surfing versus GhostSurf review will tell you how these two programs compare in actual use. I use both of these anonymizers on separate computers and so can give you my experience -- the good and not so good-- of these two popular and effective anonymous surfing tools to guard privacy. If you'd like to know a little more about the features and benefits these products offer, I suggest you take a look at the article A Review Of The Best Commercial International Anonymizers. In this Anonymizer versus GhostSurf review, we'll be comparing... - Speed Of Connection
- Start Up And Control Interface
- Ease Of Operation
- Value For Money
1. Anonymizer Versus GhostSurf Review... Speed Of ConnectionLoading of web site pages is slower for all anonymous surfing programs than when browsing without them... and these two programs aren't exempt. The delay is caused by the extra connection time to the private proxy servers, with further added delay from encrypting and then decrypting the data that passes between the web site and the PC. The amount of delay you'll observe also depends on if you're browsing peak or off-peak. Generally, my experience is that Anonymizer has a slight edge over GhostSurf for connection times... but it is very marginal. On my systems, I experience between a 5-10 second loading time delay at peak times. If you don't want to lose your normal connection time and surfing speed, then take a look at Commercial and Free Encrypted Tunnel Proxy Programs, where VPNs are reviewed. VPNs do not affect your browsing speed and so should be looked at if speed of connection is important to you.
2. Anonymizer Versus GhostSurf Review... Start Up And Control InterfaceAnonymizer Anonymous Surfing loads quickly on start up. A right click on the icon in the toolbar switches anonymous surfing 'ON' or 'OFF'. Double-clicking on the icon brings up a small panel which allows you to switch 'ON' or 'OFF' encryption. Whenever I do an Anonymizer versus GhostSurf review, there's no doubt that GhostSurf loads it's Privacy Control Center more slowly than Anonymizer's program. However, the panel provides a little more control than Anonymizer's, allowing both cookies and encryption to be switched 'ON' or 'OFF'. I give both programs 9/10 for start up and interface control.
3. Anonymizer Versus GhostSurf Review... Ease Of OperationWhen using GhostSurf with IP masking, cookie blocking and encryption on, most Web sites load cleanly. However, some websites I visit just won't load or will only partially load. This is usually corrected by switching off cookie blocking or, more often than not, encryption. Unfortunately, it's easy to forget to switch these controls back on again when visiting subsequent websites, so losing the cookie or encryption protection. Again, in each Anonymizer versus GhostSurf review, Anonymizer works more smoothly than GhostSurf, in that there is very little difficulty in the loading of Web pages and there isn't the fiddling about with cookies and encryption. That doesn't mean to say I haven't had any difficulty at all with Anonymizer loading Web pages. It has happened once or twice, where the site hasn't liked the encryption process. One click to turn off encryption and the site loaded just fine. So how would I rate the two programs for ease of operation? Well, I have to mark down GhostSurf because it is fiddley... 7/10. Anonymizer Anonymous Surfing is clearly better in dealing with the loading of Web pages and I rate it 9/10.
4. Anonymizer Versus GhostSurf Review... Value For MoneyOnce you have purchased GhostSurf, small updates are free. You would have to subscribe to any major updates. The beauty about this program is you don't have to purchase the major updates... you can continue to use your original program without paying any further annual subscriptions. With Anonymizer Anonymous Surfing, it's an annual subscription. If you don't subscribe, you lose your ability to surf anonymously. So, if you're okay with the manual intervention required with GhostSurf, then this GhostSurf review places the product as offering the best value for money -- 10/10. This doesn't mean Anonymizer isn't good value... it's just not so good as GhostSurf and it deserves 8/10. So, is it to be Anonymizer or GhostSurf for you?
